Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) is today announcing a grant of $360,000 to Fair Housing Contact Services of Akron to conduct fair housing investigations and enforcement activities throughout Summit, Portage, and Medina Counties in Northeastern Ohio. Fair Housing Contact Service investigates claims of housing discrimination and assists clients with filing discrimination complaints. They also provide free counseling for both tenants and landlords, offer various educational services regarding fair housing, foreclosure prevention counseling, reverse mortgage counseling, and first-time homebuyer counseling.

"I am proud to help secure this federal investment that will work to combat discrimination in our affordable housing system," said Congressman Ryan. "The sale, rental, and financing of housing should be discrimination-free and this grant will help ensure that Americans can live wherever they choose."

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Private Enforcement Initiative (PEI) provides funding to private, non-profit fair housing enforcement organizations to conduct testing and investigate violations under the Fair Housing Act or State or local laws. This is part of over $10 million in federal assistance available over three years to carry out this work.
